Since 1975, Petronas has awarded education sponsorships to more than 36,000 deserving students of high academic calibre who dare to push boundaries with a performance mindset and leadership capabilities. Education Sponsorship (SPM Leavers)

A sponsorship programme for deserving SPM leavers to pursue their tertiary education at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and other top leading local and overseas universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan and South Korea.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Outstanding Academic Achievements

• SPM of the current year
• Local Programme: Obtained minimum SPM 8A & CEFR (B1)
• Overseas Programme: Obtained minimum SPM 4A+ & 4A & CEFR (C1)

Note: Please note that the eligibility criteria for your application may vary depending on your selected discipline (technical or non-technical). For more detailed information, please refer to the PETRONAS education sponsorship application guidelines available at the Online Application System during application period.

2. Strong Leadership

We look beyond academics and considers the impact that students have made outside of the classroom. Participation in clubs, sports, community service, leadership roles, and other activities can greatly enhance an application.

3. Wholesome Assessment

As part of our commitment to selecting the most deserving candidates, we have designed a comprehensive evaluation process to gain a deeper understanding of your unique qualities and capabilities.

• Personality & Cognitive Assessment (Online assessment)
  This assessment evaluates your thinking abilities and inherent personality traits to understand how you process information, solve problems, and respond to situations. It helps us identify key attributes that align with the expectations and demands of a PETRONAS scholar.
• Leadership Competencies Assessment (Online)
  This assessment focuses on your demonstrated behaviours and experiences throughout your secondary education. It aims to evaluate how you have applied leadership qualities in real-life contexts and the extent to which these competencies reflect the standards of a PETRONAS scholar.
• Student Potential Assessment (Face-to-face assessment)
  This is a face-to-face interview where candidates will be assessed by our own PETRONAS assessors. The assessment is designed to measure candidates’ leadership and behavioural qualities.
